Reconfiguring Client-Server Systems
نویسنده
چکیده
An important aspect of the design of distributed systems is the degree to which it is possible to change their configuration as requirements vary. This paper addresses the issues of reconfiguring server software in a distributed system at run-time. In particular, it is concerned with externally imposed reconfigurations, which avoid explicit interactions with the servers being reconfigured or their clients. An analysis is given showing the conditions under which external reconfigurations are feasible. Mechanisms to achieve external reconfigurations are described, including the use of so-called proxy processes, which have been implemented for the Equus distributed operating environment. Finally, this work is compared with related work, and conclusions are drawn about the advantages and limits to externally-imposed reconfiguration techniques.

Dynamic Distributed Multimedia: Seamless Sharing and Reconfiguration of Multimedia Flow Graphs
Mobile devices with multimedia and networking capabilities are quickly becoming ubiquitous through the availability of small notebooks, PDA, and in particular, mobile phones. However, most multimedia systems are still centralized, concentrating all multimedia computing on a single device. At best they deploy a strict client/server architecture mostly for streaming multimedia from some server wh...
متن کاملA CSA Method for Assigning Client to Servers in Online Social Networks
This paper deals with the problem of user-server assignment in online social network systems. Online social network applications such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram are built on an infrastructure of servers that enables them to communicate with each other. A key factor that determines the facility of communication between the users and the servers is the Expected Transmission Time (ETT). A ...
متن کاملA Novel Method for VANET Improvement using Cloud Computing
In this paper, we present a novel algorithm for VANET using cloud computing. We accomplish processing, routing and traffic control in a centralized and parallel way by adding one or more server to the network. Each car or node is considered a Client, in such a manner that routing, traffic control, getting information from client and data processing and storing are performed by one or more serve...
متن کاملComposable ad hoc location-based services for heterogeneous mobile clients
This paper introduces a comprehensive architecture that supports adapting a client device’s functionality to new services it discovers as it moves into a new environment. Users wish to invoke services – such as controlling the lights, printing locally, gaining access to application-specific proxies, or reconfiguring the location of DNS servers – from their mobile devices. But a priori standardi...
متن کاملAn Overview of Peer-to-Peer Information Systems
The limitations of client/server systems become evident in an Internetscale distributed environment. P2P systems offer an alternative to traditional client/server systems: Every node acts both as a client and a server and “pays” its participation by providing access to its computing resources. Systems such as Napster and Gnutella have proven their practical applicability. In this article we bri...
